Meet the Artist

Yes, that’s me — often tucked away in my home studio, quietly pottering around and making things. I’m a bit of an introvert by nature, happiest in my own space, surrounded by pencils, paper, and a gentle state of organised mess. It’s where I feel most settled, and where my best work tends to happen.

Over the past few years, my creative focus has centred around coloured pencil drawing. It wasn’t part of some grand plan. In fact, it started almost by accident. I hadn’t drawn much since high school, but one day I picked up a pencil and drew a native morepork owl. On a “why not?” moment, I listed it on Trade Me and to my surprise, it sold. That small moment sparked something bigger and marked the beginning of my journey as an artist.

What keeps me hooked is the challenge. I love the process of making a subject feel alive on paper, capturing the small details and character that give it personality. That challenge is what draws me towards realism. It forces me to slow down, really look at what I’m drawing, and sit with the subject for a while. Nature provides endless inspiration for this, from birds and animals to plants, insects, and all sorts of other ‘natury’ things. Every now and then, I’ll add a touch of whimsy or humour too, because I like artwork that makes me (and hopefully you) smile.

I’ll be upfront — the pretentious side of the art world isn’t really my thing. I’m far more interested in creating work that feels approachable and sharing it directly with people who connect with it. I love knowing my art is heading off to live in someone’s home, becoming part of their everyday space, rather than sitting behind a velvet rope. One day, I’d love to have a space where people can visit, see my work in person, and have a chat. Until then, my full catalogue of artwork is available online, and I also pop up at selected markets and events throughout the year.

If you’d like to follow along, you’re very welcome to join my mailing list for occasional studio updates and first looks at newly finished artwork. You can also find me on Facebook and Instagram, where I share what I’ve been working on and the occasional behind-the-scenes moment.

Thank you for taking the time to explore my work. I hope it brings a little calm, curiosity, or joy into your day, and that you’ll stay connected so I can share more of what I’ve been creating.
