Ruru NZ Morepork - Giclée Print
This ruru was taken care of at The Wingspan National Bird of Prey Centre, Rotorua and it was eventually released back into the wild.
Ruru - New Zealand’s native owl, with large eyes, a mournful cry and a watchful nature, these birds hold a lot of symbolism in Māori mythology. In olden times many people were fearful of the powers of the morepork. Their symbolism is linked with guardianship, forewarning, grief and awareness.
