'Kokako's Delight'
A kōkako and his hard-earned feast of favourite delights.
This artwork features the native kōkako bird feasting on miro and karamu berries sitting in a paua shell. The bird wears a pounamu pendant in a koru design as a symbol of New Zealand bush and nature. This piece also features the NZ native blue mushroom (Entoloma hochstetteri) The mushrooms colour resembles the blue wattle of the kōkako bird; hence the Māori name for this fungus, werewere-kōkako.
